What ended up being a
collaboration between former members of the
Nu Beams and The
Tweezers, represented a seismic blast
of evolutionary fusion in unforeseen
depth and energy for
all concerned.
This emerging new
creature called Bad
JuJu, found (from The Tweezers)
drummer Alan Sweet, bassist Tim
Davis and
guitarist and vocalist Bob Brasier,
joining forces with (from the Nu Beams) guitarist
Dana Roy and vocalist, sax player TL
Ary. Also contributing mightily to
the project is the
extraordinary sax player Steve
Barnes. With new high energy
material written,
rehearsed and performed, Bad JuJu
formalized itself with the help of a
film crew and director by mounting the
stage for
some hijinks and
mad fun on MTV. The
featured song was 'Under My Own
Spell.' The
strategy of
simply placing the band in front of
an audience
in a club and rolling film was
brilliantly simple.
Like all
artists, bands
- and like life itself,
change is a constant
and Bad JuJu has seen some
stellar individuals occupy the drummers throne;
The energetic and bombastic
wizardry of drummer Mike
Mishe is one of
those;
Mike Mishe holding snare
drum
another being
the spectacularly
astute, agile, intuitive
and totally
dialed in, Dan
Vanpatten,
former drummer
for the
band Berlin.
Dan's
achievements in
the music
industry are substantial
and well
documented. He
produced the
first record
from The
Tweezers
and
so his
involvement
with Bad
JuJu just
felt like
family.
